Donor eggs | sperm | embryos

The use of donated gametes and embryos is a well established form of fertility treatment for those who are single and for couples in a relationship.

Egg Recipient
Some women are unable to produce good quality eggs. This can occur due to numerous reasons, including advanced age, poorly developed ovaries, premature menopause, previous surgery or chemotherapy. In this situation, IVF using donated eggs offers a good chance of becoming pregnant. The donor's eggs are injected with sperm obtained from the partner or a sperm donor. The embryo is then implanted into the woman’s uterus.

Sperm Recipient
Like women, men may not be able to produce sperm due to various reasons. Treatment using donated sperm can take different forms. These include Intra-uterine Insemination (IUI) or In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF). These methods are the same as IUI and IVF treatments with partner sperm, except that donor sperm is used.

Embryo Recipient
Treatment using donated embryos would be the ideal treatment for couples who are unable to produce good quality gametes or embryos. The woman's womb is prepared for receiving the embryo with the help of medications. The embryo is then transferred into the uterus under ultrasound guidance.
